Plan to lose your device

Plan to lose your device

If you take the right precautions now, you’ll be able to:

erase a lost device,

sign out of email on a device,

recover everything that’s on a lost device,

prevent strangers from snooping,

and track down lost devices!

==================

APPLE

 There are a number of options that can be enabled/disabled to suit your need and space available on your iCloud storage. By default, all accounts have 5GB space for free.

Consult this page for an overview of iCloud account settings.

==================

ANDROID

The guide below is designed as general advice for making backups on Android devices. Google provides detailed instructions for backing up and restoring data on Android devices: https://support.google.com/android/answer/2819582?hl=en-GB If you require instructions specific to your device, we recommend consulting the manufacturer’s instructions.

==================

Step 3: We recommend that you set your device to automatically lock or delete data should an incorrect passphrase be entered 10-15 times in a row. Locking data rather than deleting data is a safer option if there is a risk of a child getting access to the device! Using this setting together with a strong passphrase makes it almost impossible for others to access your data.

==================

I must never…

 ...jailbreak a device that stores work information. The benefits of jailbreaking devices are pretty trivial – like changing your phone’s interface, for example. The drawbacks include removing security shields and voiding warranties.

...install apps from anywhere other than the Apple App or Google Play stores. This limits the likelihood of malware infections.

==================

1. A strong passphrase and biometric login makes your device secure and your life simple. It’s a killer combo!

2. Plan to lose your device. Take steps to make sure you’re still in control when you do.

3. Enlist antivirus, automatic software updates and encryption to prevent criminals from hacking your devices.

4. Only ever download apps from the Apple App or Google Play stores. Use sound judgment when you do!

These changes are down to you.

You can race on with your day and ignore the advice...

Or you can do something.

Protect yourself, your colleagues and Diamond users. Be a security hero.

Over to you.
